If your going to start training combat, why not just start slayer at the same time? That way your getting that skill out of the way, earning combat xp, and also gaining points to get cool items. Also if you DUO slayer with a friend, your gaining double the xp, I also advice that.

Making money:

Alching, Staking, Pvp, Bossing, Skilling, and Dicing.
